Alright, grade 12 #niprockart students, here's a topic that is being hotly debated: should video games be seen as art? Before we debate in class, you're going to need to beef up your opinion by writing a slightly longer blog post. I'll help you out. A bit. ;) Halo 4 Concept Art by Thomas Scholes Recently, Jian Ghomeshi shared a great chat on Q , where he opened a somewhat sensitive topic to be discussed. How do you think the topic was covered? Do you think anything was missing from the discussion? If anything was left out, what do you wish you could have contributed? Do you have any suggestions, based on what you know about video games? Recently, the Smithsonian had an exhibit dedicated to video games, presenting them as a new form of art. Read the article by Naina Singh to gain a bit more understanding of our issue. I.S.S. The Lip Dub from shareski on Vimeo . #NipRockArt students have made their mark! Dean Shareski recently invited some schools to take part in a project that he created . We were thrilled to have the chance to participate. Our Principal, Donna Fry, wrote about it too: " Collaboration: We've Arrived! " Today, she tweeted the link to Commander Hadfield, who watched the video and tweeted back! See the story here: " Out of This World ". Isn't it amazing to see the wonderful connections and creations that can be made by working together? Grade 11 #niprockart students are taking on a new challenge: to put their art where their heart is. Inspired by the work of Tricia Fuglestad and Suzanne Tiedemann , I decided that it was time to make good use of our art skills. Art can't be made just for its own sake all the time... image courtesy of webclipart Yesterday, the grade 11 class made a list of local charities, and will soon be choosing the organization they would like to support the most. They will also be deciding what type of art will be the best to produce for our project, which isn't as easy as it seems. Although different students like to work with different types of materials, our goal is to raise funds. What will people want to buy ? I'm sure that people will support our cause and purchase items to help out, but more people will support us if our product is appealing. So... good luck to my class as you make your art with a bit of heart!
